Your recovery key in Dixl
Your recovery key is a 64-character code that protects your Secure Backups. Without it, your backup cannot be decrypted — not even by us.
Save your key
When you turn on Secure Backups, Dixl shows your recovery key once. Save it in one of these ways:
- Store it in your device’s password manager (recommended).
- Write it down and keep it somewhere physically safe.
- Keep it in a password-manager app you already trust.
If Local backups are also enabled, the same key protects both — you only need to save it once.
View your key again
Open Settings › Chats › Backups and tap View recovery key. You’ll be asked to unlock your phone first.
If you lose your key
If you lose your recovery key and get signed out, your backups cannot be restored — Dixl has no copy of it. To generate a new key, enter your current one at Settings › Chats › Backups › Confirm key.
FAQ
Can Dixl recover my key for me? No. The key never leaves your device, so we can’t reset or retrieve it.
Is the recovery key the same as my PIN? No — the PIN protects account data on the server; the recovery key decrypts your backups.
Do I need a separate key for local and cloud backups? No — one key protects both Secure Backups and Local backups.
