Message requests in Dixl
When someone who isn’t in your contacts messages you for the first time, Dixl puts the conversation into a message request. You decide whether to accept, delete, or block.
What a request looks like
A new thread appears at the top of your chat list with three buttons:
- Accept — moves the thread into your main chat list. The sender can then see you’ve read their messages.
- Delete — removes the thread. The sender can still message you again.
- Block — removes the thread and stops that account from messaging you.
Until you accept, the sender doesn’t know you’ve seen the message, and typing indicators aren’t sent.
Which messages become requests
- Messages from people not in your contacts.
- Group adds from people not in your contacts (accepting adds the group to your list).
- Messages from accounts you previously blocked stay blocked unless you unblock them.
Limit who can find you
Message requests are automatic, but you can limit who is able to reach you in the first place. Open Settings › Privacy › Phone number › Who can find me by number? and choose:
- Anyone — anyone who has your phone number can see you’re on Dixl and start a chat.
- Nobody — people can’t find you by number unless you’ve messaged them or already share a chat.
FAQ
Does the sender know I saw their request? Not until you accept. Before that, no read receipts or typing indicators are sent.
What’s the difference between Delete and Block? Delete just removes the thread (they can write again); Block also prevents future messages from that account.
Can I stop strangers from reaching me? Set Who can find me by number to Nobody, so people who only have your number can’t start a chat unless you message them first.
