Proxy in Dixl
If Dixl is blocked on your current network, you can set a TLS proxy in the app. Messages and calls then route through it to reach our servers.
When to use a proxy
- Dixl traffic is filtered on your current Wi-Fi network.
- Your mobile carrier restricts the service.
- You’re travelling somewhere the app can’t reach its servers.
Set a proxy
- Open Settings › Data and storage › Proxy.
- Toggle Use proxy on.
- Enter the proxy host, for example
proxy.example.com. Dixl uses port 443 automatically. - Tap Save. The status turns green when the proxy connects.
What the proxy can and can’t see
- The proxy operator sees that you’re connecting to Dixl servers.
- The proxy operator cannot read your messages or calls — they stay end-to-end encrypted inside the TLS tunnel to our servers.
- The proxy operator sees your IP address, so use a proxy you trust.
Getting a proxy address
Proxy addresses are shared by volunteers and organizations. Don’t enter a proxy address you received from an untrusted source.
Turn the proxy off
When you’re back on an unrestricted network, open the same screen and toggle Use proxy off. Dixl connects directly.
FAQ
Can the proxy read my messages? No — content stays end-to-end encrypted; the proxy only relays the connection.
Does a proxy hide my IP from Dixl? The proxy operator sees your IP; our servers see the proxy’s. A proxy is for reaching Dixl when it’s blocked, not for anonymity.
Which port does it use? Dixl uses port 443 automatically — you only enter the host.
