Usernames in Dixl

A username lets people start a chat with you without seeing your phone number. It’s optional, and you can change or remove it anytime.

Create a username

  1. Open Settings › Profile.
  2. Tap Username.
  3. Pick a username of 3–32 characters — letters, numbers, and underscores.

Dixl adds a short numeric suffix (for example, alex.42) so you can use a non-unique handle.

Share your username

Tap Share to open a link and QR code. The link looks like https://dixl.com/#eu/... — it’s generated by the app and contains your handle in encrypted form. The plaintext username is never placed in the link, and the link can’t be built by hand. Scanning the QR code from a camera or another Dixl app opens a chat with you.

Who can still reach you by number

People who already have your phone number can start a chat without a username, unless you restrict that in your privacy settings.

FAQ

Is a username required? No — it’s optional. Without one, people reach you by phone number as usual.

Can I change or remove my username later? Yes, anytime, from Settings › Profile › Username. Old links stop working once you change it.

Does my username reveal my phone number? No — that’s the point. People can message you by username without ever seeing your number.

Why is there a number after my username? The numeric suffix lets several people use the same handle while keeping each address unique.
